In the last 10 years, the strong commitment of the Xunta de Galicia to science and innovation has boosted the creation of excellent research centres, the dramatic improvement of scientific indicators, the creation of hundreds of innovative companies, and the modernisation of traditional sectors, from fishery to forestry, assuring environmental sustainability and a positive social impact.
Talent has been a priority of the Galician R&D&I policies. Investing in researchers’ contracts and creating support programmes, region’s autonomous government facilitated the return of Galician researchers working abroad and increased the attraction of international scientists, who are leading the development of an internationally competitive knowledge ecosystem.

| This superstructure, created by the Xunta de Galicia to boost scientific excellence, currently comprises 10 internationally recognised research centres that cover a wide range of disciplines. | The Galicia’s autonomous government offers grants to support researchers’ recruitment at different career stages, from predoctoral studies to senior leadership, both in academic and research institutions and companies. | Technology centres are very active agents in the Galician R&D&I ecosystem. The 7 centres gathered in the Atiga alliance employ together more than 1,400 researchers working on over 500 R&D&I projects, mostly international. In 2024, Atiga members offered 293 new jobs. Know more >> atiga.es | |
